Program Description
8:30am – 9:00am
Arrival
Students arrive, unpack & get settled, and are ready to start the morning session.
Global Awareness
Global Citizen: Around the World in 14 Days: All the continents will be included in interactive discussions, videos, reading and writing (using material from the other courses), and a class discussion about language to engage students in underst anding the global world we live in, how we differ and how we are similar with respect to cultural and societal differences.
Public Speaking & Debate
Speaking & Listening: Listening is as critical as speaking. Both formal and informal language will be stressed with an emphasis on understanding and conveying meaning. Voice and body language form an integral part of instruction as well as the ability to be succinct and respectful of others. Everyday negotiations, group dynamics, and individual communications are structured into the program.
Math Drills Math: This will focus on building and practicing the core competencies – technique, accuracy, speed, and review skills in all the Quantitative areas that will be useful for good performance in students’ regular class work as well as in Math competitions. Each workshop will consist of lectures and in-class exercises which will be fully reviewed by the tutors during the same session.
Lunch Break Lunch Break
Integrated Reading, Writing and Vocabulary Integrated reading, writing, and vocabulary: Integrated reading, writing, and vocabulary: Critical Reading requires focus, interest, and underst anding. Reading skills will be fully developed through speed reading techniques, a wide variety of materials and subject matter, and the integration of visual tools to enhance creativity and analysis. The material used is designed to make learning fun, ranging from easy to mind-stretching topics and vocabulary. The ability to take accurate notes and outline thoughts is essential to the journey of writing. Both formal and informal writing will be emphasized as well as the appropriate use of language for each area subject and situation. Students will learn to strengthen arguments, provide reasonable opinions, and use imagination as well as facts and research to produce successful writing products. The integrated approach allows coverage of extensive new vocabulary, meaning, synonyms, antonyms, and usage.
Everyday Science
Discovery: Science is primarily about how to think and process information, it trains the mind to be more orderly in problem-solving. Students develop scientific reasoning (identifying and gathering evidence, testing predictions). An underst anding of science enables students to better evaluate an increasing number of current issues like climate change, alternative energy, personal health, etc.,
Grab Bag/Bee/Language
Grab Bag: Everyday student will have the opportunity to r andomly select an exciting supplement to what they learned through engaging videos that will entertain and provide knowledge that will broaden student awareness of the world around them on l and, the sea, or the sky. Interesting and thought-stimulating activities such as Chess, Painting, Group discussion, and similar areas will be covered, depending on student aptitude. The topics covered are designed to improve Logical Reasoning skills. Bee Time: Students will compete constructively in Spelling, Vocabulary, Science, Geography, and Math “BEES”.Language: Learning a second language at an early age has a positive effect on intellectual growth. It improves students’ underst anding of his/her native language. Telugu, Hindi, and other languages may be covered depending on substantial student interest.
Fun Time Game/Movie Time: Free unstructured play is important for learning as it promotes how to work collaboratively, to share, to negotiate, to resolve conflicts, and learn self-advocacy skills. It helps them to develop decision-making skills, move at their own pace, discover areas of interest on their own, and ultimately engage fully in the passions they wish to pursue. The games include Trivia, Legos, Pictionary, Scrabble, brain teasers, etc.,
